Maybe because the house looks like this:
which is not too far off from this:
(minus the onion domes), which was how we spent our Christmas vacation.
The movie was beautiful, though one you definitely have to be in the mood for (being snowed in helps). This whole thought made me hope that Amy Merrick of An Apple a Day and Design*Sponge fame would do one of her "living in" round ups for Dr. Zhivago. To my amazement, she did! You can find it here, but I must say it isn't one of her better efforts. This image is inspiring though. :)
Being back in Iowa again for an extended time I've had a chance to reconnect to some past projects and plans. The start of a new year is a good time to revisit ones personality profile and do a little planning. For those familiar with Myers-Briggs, I am a pretty classic INFP. Reading through my profile made me realize how project oriented I am. This sentence stands out to me:
"When an INFP has adopted a project or job which they're interested in, it usually becomes a "cause" for them. Although they are not detail-oriented individuals, they will cover every possible detail with determination and vigor when working for their "cause".
The last four years of my life can be divided neatly into distinct "causes:"
Senior Art Thesis
Wedding Planning
Ames Art Show
Applying for/Starting/Finishing Law School
(and I would add Admissions Job and Having a Baby as sub "causes"in the Law School phase)
(and I would add Admissions Job and Having a Baby as sub "causes"in the Law School phase)
No wonder I haven't felt like painting! Now that the law school phase is winding down, other unfinished projects are presenting themselves as possibilities for new "causes" to be taken on.
It has taken me a long time to learn that simplicity and perseverance are better than talent. So I'm going to work on recording my life and loving my family. Hopefully the recording will be spread across a number of mediums--paint, blog, baby book, journal. Last year my resolution was to learn to cook with beans (hah, I know, how dumb/boring! Hopefully this year's will be more fun). But I did it! Let me tell you, I like a challenge.
