This weekend marked the end of a K-family era--the infamous first year of law school. While it is not hard to say goodbye to the long nights, tedious study hours, and otherwise grueling schedule we kept this past year, there are many things I will miss. My husband for instance.
Just shy of two wonderful years of marriage, my husband is leaving for a 9-week summer internship. To be honest, it doesn't seem quite fair to give up your husband for a year, only to give him up for the whole summer, too. I have never appreciated military spouses more than I have today. It is difficult to presume any real similarity between us however, that would, I think, detract from their much more noble plight; especially since I know my husband is safe.
Still, it is hard to say goodbye.
I spent the day at home after taking him to the airport early this morning, taking a much-anticipated rest from the long push that got us to this moment--one year of law school and a series of events and necessary planning leading up to the internship. In truth, it was nice to be able to use the computer at my leisure (instead of competing with a legal brief or an open memo) or to watch Food Network instead of golf. I didn't make any meals today, nor did I buy any "manly food" at the store this afternoon. :) I have a feeling it will be easy to stay in shape this summer since I tend to eat like a bird when I am only cooking for one.
I get the feeling these novelties will wear out pretty fast. However, I can't help feeling a little bit like Kevin in Home Alone when he first discovers he has the house all to himself. :)
I'll miss you babe!
